Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) serves as President Auburn Network, Inc., an Auburn,
Alabama-based media and marketing company. He also serves the citizens of East Alabama
as a member of the Alabama Legislature where he holds the position of Speaker of
the House.
A 1983 graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in radio and television,
Hubbard came to Auburn two weeks after graduation where he worked for six years
in the Auburn Athletic Department as Associate Sports Information Director. During
his athletic media relations career, Hubbard worked directly with two successful
Heisman Trophy efforts - Herschel Walker at Georgia and Bo Jackson at Auburn.
In 1990, he left Auburn University to head up Auburn’s radio and television sports
network. In 1994, Hubbard formed his own company, Auburn Network, Inc., to handle
Auburn’s multi-media rights. In 2003, Hubbard sold the multi-media sports division
of the company to International Sports Properties.
Hubbard’s company, Auburn Network, Inc., owns and operates three commercial radio
stations in the Auburn-Opelika market and is also a partner in Craftmaster Printers,
Inc., a commercial printing company based in Auburn.
In 1998, Hubbard, in his first attempt at elected office, was elected to a seat
in the Alabama House of Representatives. Hubbard represents District 79, which includes
portions of Auburn and Opelika. He was re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
In addition to his legislative service, Hubbard served two terms as Chairman of
the Alabama Republican Party. During his tenure as Chairman, Republicans won all
statewide offices and gained control of both houses of the legislature for the first
time in 136 years.
During the December 2010 Special Legislative Session, Hubbard was elected by his
colleagues in the Alabama House of Representatives as Speaker of the House becoming
the first Republican Speaker since Reconstruction. He was re-elected to the position
for a four-year term in January of 2011.
A close ally of former two-term Governor Bob Riley, he served as Chairman of the
Governor’s 2003 and 2007 Inaugural Committees that coordinated the inaugural activities
of the Governor and all other constitutional officers in Alabama.
Hubbard’s wife, Dr. Susan Hubbard, is a Professor and Associate Dean in Auburn University’s
College of Human Sciences. They have two sons, Clayte, and Riley. The Hubbards are
active members of the Auburn United Methodist Church.
